Part of Czech Mates - Czech chamber music with Dante Quartet
Children's workshop ideal for ages 9 - 14
Participating children do not need to be accompanied by an adult but any accompanying adults do need to purchase a ticket.
Adam Mackenzie
with members of the Dante Quartet
Inspired by Janáček's habit of writing down ‘speech melodies' - including the sounds of the monkeys he heard at London Zoo - we will explore compositional patterns and create a new piece of music out of everyday word patterns. Just bring yourself and your speaking voice.
The workshop in the Kings Place with the Dante Quartet will draw on rhythms and nuances from the language we use today; from describing what we did in the holidays to a poem we write in school. How can the phrases be manipulated to create exciting textures and interesting melodies? This is a basic introduction to simple, minimalist compositional techniques.
Adam Mackenzie is the newly appointed Director of Education for English Sinfonia and Head of Education for Brandenburg Sinfonia. After studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the renowned Tim Steiner, Sean Gregory and Paul Griffiths, Adam began a career in orchestral education. He has lead and taken part in projects for the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, and most other UK orchestras. He is a previous winner of the Martin Music Scholarship Access and Outreach Award with his chamber group the Bozza Ensemble.
